Why Should I Vote for Issue 1?
-
- Create the 15-member Ohio Citizens Redistricting Commission made up of Democratic, Republican, and Independent citizens who broadly represent the different geographic areas and demographics of the state.
- Ban current or former politicians, political party officials and lobbyists from sitting on the Commission.
- Require fair and impartial districts by making it unconstitutional to draw voting districts that discriminate against or favor any political party or individual politician.

- Require the commission to operate under an open and independent process.
Didn’t the Supreme Court Already Rule Ohio’s Redistricting Was Unconstitutional?
Short answer: Yes.
In November 2023, the League of Women Voters challenged the Ohio Redistricting Commission‘s redrawn maps and won. The state legislators have yet to make the required changes, which is why we need to further enshrine in Ohio’s Constitution, the right to fair district maps.
Why is the Ballot Language So Confusing?
This is by design, created by the GOP led ballot board. The right leaning Supreme Court also just allowed for that confusing summary language to be on the ballot, with the mission to sway voters against Issue 1. The language of the actual amendment itself, has not and will not change, only what is shown to voters on their ballots. Much like the other Issue 1 for Women’s Reproductive Healthcare in 2023, they are purposely trying to confuse voters.
This is why we need honest and transparent leadership in our Ohio State House. And this is just one reason why I am running.
